Maggie Freleng

Maggie Freleng is a multimedia journalist in New York City with over a decade of reporting focusing on mental illness, social justice, and women’s issues. She is the Producer at-Large for NPR’s “Latino USA” and the host of The Disappearance of Maura Murray on Oxygen.

When Maggie was a kid, her mom would always find her watching crime shows on TV and would worry about the impact the violence and graphic nature would have on her young daughter. But despite growing up and developing a case of “mean world syndrome,” Maggie channeled what she saw into a determination to use her platform as a journalist to raise the voices of those who are often overlooked.

Maggie’s work has been featured on WNYC, NBC New York, WHYY Newsworks, WHYY’s The Pulse, Popular Science, Boston Globe, The Guardian’s “What Would a Feminist Do” and The Huffington Post.
